Meet A Trader

Meet A Trader

Here’s in the market we love nothing more than getting to know our traders, so read on to Meet a Trader!

We spoke to the lovely Sara Paris. From a young age, Sara had always had an interest in art. Her family business started out on a stall in Shepherd’s Bush Market, selling uniquely-designed hats day-in and day-out for 42 years. IMG_0278 IMG_0274 What was the inspiration behind setting up a stall? This has always been a family business. My dad has always been the creative type and had been obsessed with accessories- especially hats. He used to make is own Turban hats from scratch from materials bought from local haberdashery and it was from there he decided to expand within the hat business. What made you want to take over from your family? I wanted to keep the family tradition going so in later years I can then pass on my business onto my son making it the 3rd generation carrying on the hat business. Plus, I’ve always had an interest in the fashion industry. It was fashion that help motivate me to travel to places such as New York and China to explore various fashion trends and unique fabrics. How would describe your customers? I generally attract a wide range of customers but the majority tend to be Afro/Caribbean ladies as they’re always on the hunt for amazing hats/ fascinators for Church events on weekends. The best thing about my stall is that we sell hats for all occasions. Weddings, parties, cold weather- you name it! But what makes my stand different is that the hats designed for our customers, you won’t be able to find anywhere else in London. For great hats & accessories, check out stall 6 for Sara Paris located at the top of the market – It’s only a two minute walk from Shepherd’s Bush Market station.

We’re putting the fun back into the market!

This half-term, we’re setting up a FREE event throughout the whole week. We’ve put together our very own Shepherd’s Bush Market Trail! They’ll be letters dotted in and around market for the each child to go find each letter. Once you’ve gathered all the words within the market, you must unscramble the letters and find out the ‘mystery word’ in Shepherd’s Bush Market. It’s a great way for families to interact with the traders to find the mystery letter in any and every shop, arch, and stall! Each child who completes the Shepherd’s Bush trail will receive a prize!- It’s that easy!

So be sure to spread the word about Shepherd’s Bush Market Trail all day from 15th- 19th February!

For those you would like to take part in the kids activity next week, head to the Market Office where you collect your map and be given your first clue.

Let’s see how well you know your local market whilst having some half-term fun!

On your marks, set, GO!

Introducing Market Yard Restaurants

Market Yard will host two of London’s up and coming restaurants who are looking to make a big impact in the food industry. They will put together and short selection of menus, including some of their signature dishes to add to the street food experience.

Each restaurant will hand the kitchen over once they complete their fair share of six weeks in the yard. From now- 20th March, we kick things off with our first host, Foley’s Tasting Kitchen, a unique restaurant focusing on modern world dishes that ties in with countries with a love for all spices. Head chef Mitzvora, will add his creative flare to his menu. This will include: ribeye cap steak with tator tots, whipped anchovy butter, grilled gem lettuce and homemade black olive mustard and spiced sweet potato fritter, grilled pineapple, jalapeni yoghurt & saffron coconut curry.
